Women in the Industry II

Here we are again with the issue of women working in the industry. This time the issue involves the best boy (Timothy Day) of "Grey's Anatomy" and its director of photography, Herb Davis. Day has filed a report, a lawsuit, on L.A. Superior Court last Friday on May 2. Day has been working on the show for 10 years and was appalled and angered that his contract was not renewed. Day is filing the lawsuit due the the wrong that was done to him and to most of the female employees on the show. "The specific charges are for the failure to prevent discrimination, retaliation and failure to rehire Day in violation of public policy." Day says that the women there are held on a higher standard than the men and that Herb Davis "exhibited contempt for female employees" and that he treats them unfairly. He sometimes withheld key equipment from them until the show went over budget in which case he would blame them for not getting things done. This issue is important in the film industry because women deserve better treatment, and by holding them in a lower standard then the potential and the ideas that they have may not even surface. As a student filmmaker I think that this will be resolved in the future. This affects the industry because there are currently many female employees in the film industry and if a catalyst would spark this issue then boycotts or marches will be involved. It can damage the industry for an indefinite amount of time, but it's very unlikely though.
