In what direction is Hollywood headed in? What new inventions will propell the world of movie making this time? Frrom the invention of the first camera to HD digital cameras the innovators of this world have always pushed the limits to film making. Recently there have been many movies that have been shown in IMAX 3D. In this century more and more movies have been shown in 3D, and I think its great that movies are becoming more realistic. People back in the 1800s would be fascinated if they ever saw a modern film in 3D, they would jump out of their seats. When the first moving picture ever came out people just couldn't believe it. People back then even jumped out of their seats trying to dodge an incoming train that was being shown to them on film. Oh if only they can see what headway we've made in the world of film now, they would get heart attacks just watching cars flip and explode in 3D. 

I think that 3D is the direction the film industry is heading in now. The first article from HollywoodReporter.com talks about new the 3D technology that is being produced by companies such as Sony. It also talks about Josh Grish being promoted to "senior vp of film and television services and general manager of U.S. operations." The second article talks about how TriDef was award 3D awards from "International 3D Society." They have created apps that converts videos into viewable 3D with out the need for glasses. It mentions in the article,  "Its TriDef® 3D solutions convert 2D to 3D automatically, and enable delivery to 3D TVs, PCs and mobile devices." I think that these are very important articles because the world of 3D is starting to become larger and larger. TriDef has made it possible to turn 2D videos into 3D with their technology. As a student and as a guy I can't help but feel excited about these inventions. Though this technology is only on certain platforms I'm certain it will catch up to the film industry soon. Infact I think that 3D movies are already a big part of the industry. As a consumer I am happy that movies are becoming more and more realistic, it makes watching the movie more fun. As a film student I would love to work with 3D technology someday. I think when 3D is fully developed and when wearing the glasses don't give people head aches, this technology is a great tool to making awesome movies. And also as a future filmmaker, I can see myself working with 3D. The reason for that is because 3D gives that sense of realism to the viewer. It is another tool that draws people into my movie. It is a great tool that can be used to make the audience feel connected to the world that I would have created. I can't help but think if the current filmmakers out there are totally disregarding this great tool that can be use to further develope their pieces of art. The reason I say this is because even though I think that 3D is great wearing those glasses gives me a headache and makes me not want to watch the movie anymore. If there's amazing 3D technology out there ( EXAMPLE: "a portable 3D laser projector fromOptical Microvision Lab; Amblyz, a technology for medical use from Xpand 3D"), why hasn't there been a major development in the film industry?

The worry of todays film industries are securing movies in a way so that they last longer. DOTS is  a Digital Optical Tape System that "makers are pitcching as the solution to solving Hollywood's "archiving dilemma." It is a problem because securing the old movies are an important part of The films industries history. As a future film maker and as a film student I think its very important to secure the olds movies made in the past because a lot can be learned from these old master pieces. I think its also important as a consumer because if an old movie is lost then looking for it would be a difficult task. I think that having the movie in an archiving system would make everything for consumers very simple. The DOTS initiative makes all of that possible. this way of archiving makes the movie last 100years at least. If DOTS isnt produced i wonder what alternate way will the industry use to keep the old films secure. Considering that this project is expensive.

Anti-Paparazzi

Being famous seems like a goal worth striving for. People often fantasize about the fabulous lives that movie stars are able to live. They are rich and adored by many. They have money power and they are always starting new fashion trends.If they were in highschool they would be deemed the "popular kids."It seems like everyone wants what they have. But if you look through all that glitter and gold we would start to see the hardships they undergo. They are swarmed by paparizzi day and night. They are always being watched and their privacy is being played with; but that's just part of the job. They knew that when they became famous that this would be one of the things they would have to sacrifise. But what happens when their kid's privacy and well-being is put to risk as well.

Halle Berry and Jeniffer Garen have appeared before a committe at a state assembly stating their position on paparazzi. They came to explain the risks that these swarm of paparazi have on their children. Jennifer Garen testifies that the man who threatened to kill her and her child was found hiding in the group of paparazi that awaited her kid in school. "It has now passed the upper legislature of the state assembly and on Tuesday was sent for review before the assembly appropriations committee – moving it one step closer to becoming law." 

This issue is important because it changes alot of things in the film industry. If you compare a movie to a band the director, make-up director, and cinamotographers would be considered as the instrument players of the band, the actors would be the lead singer; the eye candy who sells the group. It's important because if we aren't able to follow up with our favorite actors where would that leave us consumers? As a student, who has overly protective parents, I applaude their efforts to pass this anti-paparazzi law. But as a consumer I feel like the paparazzi is part of their fame. If they didn't have scandals to keep themselves interesting, then they would only be half famous for what they really are.
